Chloe Sutton and Katinka Hosszu win gold medal in swimming events - 2011 Charlotte UltraSwim
The final session of the 2011 North Carolina Charlotte UltraSwim witnessed notable swims of Chloe Sutton and Katinka Hosszu, conquering gold medals in their respective events at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Centre.
The session included the finals of the Women’s 800m freestyle, 200m Individual Medley (IM), 200m back-stroke and the 100m freestyle.
The session began with 800m freestyle final, where the Mission Viejo-CA’s Chloe Sutton sustained her fastest spot into the finals, clocking 8:31.20 minutes for the gold medal. She was followed Andreina Pinto of Gator Swim Club and Camryne Morris of North
Baltimore, who earned the silver and bronze medals by touching the wall in a time of 8:33.37 and 8:39.18 minutes, respectively.
Sutton and Pinto both secured their participation at the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai, as their timings were comfortably under the World Championships A-Time Qualification Standard of 8:35.98 minutes.
In the Women’s 200m IM, Katinka Hosszu demonstrated her remarkable swimming skills by capturing the gold medal of the event. Hosszu, who qualified as the second fastest swimmer into the final behind Elaine Breeden, occupied the top spot on the podium with
a timing of 2:12.29 minutes. She was followed by her team member, Stina Gardell, who earned the silver medal by clocking a time of 2:14.42 minutes. Furthermore, Elaine Breeden of Unattached-PC failed to maintain her fastest spot and settled on the podium for
the bronze medal in 2:14.80 minutes.
Moments later, Missy Franklin, who rules the 2010-2011 USA Swimming Grand Prix table with 16 gold medals, 3 silver medal and the two bronze medals, pocketed the gold medal of the 200m event with a timing of 2:08.36 minutes. North Baltimore’s Elizabeth Pelton
and Una SMU-NT’s Therese Svendsen, who stepped the podium for the silver and bronze medal in a time of 2:09.36 and 2:13.27 minutes, respectively.
The last event of the session was 100m freestyle, where California-PC’s Natalie Coughlin grabbed the gold medal in 54.19 seconds. She was followed by her team member, Dana Vollmer and Colorado Stars-C’s Missy Franklin, who appeared on the podium for the
silver and bronze medal, touching home in a time of 54.30 and 54.60 seconds, respectively.
The session concluded after the superior swims of swimming elites, trying to escape each other for the podium finish, whereas these swimmers will face each other at the next stop of Grand Prix in Santa Clara during June, 2011.
