Chloe Sutton and Peter Vanderkaay dominate events at the 2011 Charlotte UltraSwim – Swimming News
American champion swimmers, Chloe Sutton and Peter Vanderkaay dominated the finals of their swimming events on the first day of the 2011 North Carolina Charlotte UltraSwim, held at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Centre, on May 12, 2011.
Charlotte UltraSwim is a four-day competition and the sixth stop of the 2010-11 USA Swimming Grand Prix Series. The session included the Women’s 1500m freestyle final and the Men’s 800m freestyle final, on first session of the championship.
The 19-year-old Chloe Sutton smashed the gold medal of the distant freestyle swim by producing an astounding time of 16:21.12 minutes. Mission Viejo-CA’s Sutton was 17 seconds ahead of Gillian Ryan of Parkland Aquatic-MA, who finished her swim in the second
fastest place, clocking a time 16:38.61 minutes for the silver medal. They were followed by Gator Swim Club’s Andreina Pinto, who secured the bronze medal of the event by touching the wall in a time of 16:41.06 minutes.
Sutton, who is the gold medallist for the 400m freestyle and the silver medallist for the 800m event at the 2010 Pan Pacific Championships, controlled the race from the very start. Her unmatchable strength and beautiful swimming strokes secured her a podium
finish for the gold medal.
17-year-old, Peter Vanderkaay, presented a remarkable swim in front of the arena to conquer the title of the Men’s 800m freestyle. Vanderkaay was almost 16 seconds ahead of his following swimmer, Sean Penhale of Cascade SC, who climbed the podium for the
silver medal. Vanderkaay clocked a time of 7:54.10 minutes to earn the crown, while Penhale settled second with his 8:08.87 seconds effort. They were followed by Metro Aquatic-FG’s 18-year-old Carlos Omana, who took the bronze medal with a timing of 8:09.63
minutes. Sean Ryan of Scenic City Aqua-SE was only a second away from Omana and settled fourth, posting a time of 8:10.48 minutes.
The session completed after enthralling swims of American champions in their respective events. UltraSwim is considered of great importance because various Olympic swimmers will be participating in the Championship, as it precedes the 2011 World Championships
in Shanghai, this July.
