At school apparently "something's broken" atleast thats what the teachers say. So its a lot hotter than it should be, and a day after swim practice......sweating makes me give off the smell of chlorine and it really bothers me!

So, swimmers, what is your bathing ritual when it comes to getting rid of chlorine?

for hair: is there special shampoo? or is just wearing a cap the best solution?

skin: lots of soap? does it just take a day or two to go away?

  1. oh i used to have the same problem! seriously, well what  i did [& still do] is :

hair: well i used to use regular shampoo but i started noticing that my hair was getting drier and not as healthy as it used to be so i changed 2 this, 1) i started wetting my hair and then putting on my cap which btw is a long hair cap so that no part of my hair touches the water[it will still get wet though but not as much], 2.) i started using ULTRASWIM shampoo and condiftionar it's really cheap and works like magic , id shampoo my hair for about 11 minutes [yeah showers after wim practice should be long but it should be to ensure that you get all the cholorine out] then id apply cond. and leave it on for about 10 to 15 mins this keeps the hair soft.

    soaping:

id use irish spring soap[any kind does it really] dove works well too it keeps the skin hydrated but yes you have to soap alot but also remember to apply lots of lotion afterward it'll keep the skin hydrated.

tip* also try getting into one of the school showers and rising off so you get the immediate chlorine out so it doesnt stick to much to you.

    i hope i helped!

  2. Well when I was a competitive swimmer the thing that I heard would get the chlorine out of you skin was actually cold water. I don't know if it works, but try it out and let me know.

  3. if your swimming all the time the chlorine smell just kinda stays with ya. i would suggest redken sun shape. its for sun and sports (like swimming with chlorine.) i use it so the chlorine doesn't ruin my hair. don't use too much soap, soap and water help, but its towels that get all the dirt and stuff off. you can try using a perfume or somthing... but chlorine is mine. its actually not that bad because i like the smell of chlorine. I would just say use Redken Sun Shape and wash up, towel dry, and repeat.. hah idk well hope i helped!! =]]P

  4. i am in the pool every day cuz i swim for my school and such.

the smell never goes away as much as ive tried.

    i am permanently chlorinated.

i have honestly tried everything and nothing really works.

i usually just take a nice warm shower and then put lotion all over my body cuz the chlorine makes my skin dry.

i dont know if thats what it is but i think that might be helping a bit.

    i would try that.

  5. I found that using really nice smelling body wash helps get the chlorine smell off after I swim. I personally use the C.O. Bigelow Mentha Body Vitamin Body Wash because I think that the mint smell helps get rid of the chlorine smell. As for hair, I would recommend using a shampoo and conditioner specially made for after-swim. Ha, I actually use Swim & Sport Shampoo form L'Oreal Kids. Don't laugh at me because it actually works!

  6. I use to do competitive swimming. Now I'm a lifeguard/swim instructor.  For some reason the smell of chlorine doesn't both me anymore. But after I swim, I'll jump in the shower, I found using 2 different brands of soap will help get rid of the smell. I use a bar of soap and then I use a scented body wash. This way if I don't get the complete chlorine smell, I can smell like mangos.

For my hair, I'll shampoo twice. The second time I really scrub my scalp. Then I'll use a good conditioner, sometimes depending on how my hair is, I'll leave the conditioner in and rinse it out a couple hours later.

  7. Ugh, i used to wear a cap the ENTIRE time i was in the pool when i was still swimming.  I never EVER took it off to dip my head back...and four years later, I STILL have chlorine damaged hair (it's about four inches past my shoulders).

    d**n CHLORINE!

  8. I am pretty sure that there is a shampoo that washes away the chlorine. Just look in the hygiene or something isle when you are shopping. I know I use to have some.

  9. To be honest I like the smell... Yeah I know I am weird.
