My mom told me that chocolate milk isnt as good for you as white milk because the sugar in the chocolate absorbs most of the nutrients. Is that true?

  1. That's absolutely true.  The chocolate keeps your body from absorbing calcium which is the reason for drinking milk in the first place.

But, come on... what good is milk w/o the chocolate?  You can eat cheese for the calcium  : )

  2. White Power!

  3. The sugar doesn't absorb he nutrients from the milk, but the milk will have less nutrients because the nutrients are replaced by sugar.

  4. i hate milk

  5. Milk in general isn't really "good" for you after a certain age. In fact milk is one of the worst sources of calcium because it takes calcium in your body to break down the calcium in milk. Chocolate milk is going to be worse for you because it will have more calories from the added sugar to it from the chocolate.

  6. Well... sortof. Milk is good, calcium is neccessary (did you know our bodies stop absorbing calcium when we turn like, 30? Something ridiculous like that) so drink your milk!!!!

Chocolate milk has lots of sugar in it, of course, and it's tastylicious... I don't know if it's chemically advanced enough to prevent absorbtion of what it's part of...

HOWEVER - think of it this way. If you're drinking milk regularly, a glass of chocolate milk now and then is not going to kill you. It's a treat. What is going to be so horrible about drinking a glass of chocolate milk for every 3 regular glasses of milk you have?? Seriously, you're getting your nutrients. So don't worry about it! But don't shun that plain milk.... sugary milk is not good for you every single time. ;o)
