Question:

Chocolate chip conversion

I'm making choclate chip drop cookies, and it calls for 1 oz of unsweetened chocolate chips, and 1 oz of sweetened chocolate chips. (then I have to melt them together)

I was wondering how many teaspoons or tablespoons or cups (whichever is right) of choclate chips is one ounce? (unmelted)

  1. Well, a 12 oz. bag of chips = 2 cups

    so 1 oz. = about 3 Tbsp.

I've never seen unsweetened choc. chips!  If you use 2 oz. of semi-sweet chips, you won't have to use 2 different chocolates, b/c semi-sweet is what the recipe is getting you to make by using unsweet and regular chocolate.

  2. Six ounces, by weight, of chocolate chips equals one cup by volume.  So, one ounce of chocolate chips would be 1/6th of a cup.  If you have a 1/3 cup measure, just fill that half full.

  3. An ounce in this case is probably a measurement of weight, I do a similar recipe and I always use 1 rounded tablespoon of each and it works fine.
