Chokidar to go close in 32Red Handicap at Wolverhampton
Scott Dixon’s 4-year-old, Chokidar, ran superbly on his return from a long eight-month vacation, and looks to be in a great position to make an impression in the 32Red Handicap at Wolverhampton on Monday, October 08, 2012.
The bay gelding signed out after performing fantastically at the end of last year. He clinched a comprehensive win at Wolverhampton in early November, when taking a 6-length triumph over Bint Elnadim.
The son of Sleeping Indian registered another classy win in December. The Toteplacepot Handicap saw him finishing on top of the table by three quarters of a length. He continued the good work, when returned at the end of August 2012.
In the Greene King Stakes (Handicap), the Paul J. Dixon-owned could only seize the third place, but his effort was really impressive. After chasing the leading pair outstandingly in the beginning, the 11-2 chance went slightly awkward a few furlongs before
the wire.
In the hands of Silvestre De Sousa, he stayed on one pace in the final stages and as a result, failed to trouble the top duo. Bred by Jeremy Gompertz, the skilful runner seems to have regained momentum following a decent act last time.
He is going to face 11 opponents in today’s 7f32y contest, which will be kicked off at 14:00 GMT. The winner of this class 5 contest will leave the park with a prize worth £2,264.
Out of others, Stir Trader, who is making handicap debut, looks to be the strongest one. The 3-year-old got off the mark here last time, when winning the 32Red Median Auction Maiden Stakes by three and a half lengths. He is surely an interesting runner.
Light From Mars also deserves some respect, despite a 4lb rise. The Ian Williams-trained was a close winner here at the end of last month. After scoring off career-low mark, he seems to be a dangerous fellow.
Chokidar has a wonderful record at Wolverhampton, as he was triumphant on his previous two outings here. Stir Trader, the handicap debutant, could pose a big threat off a fair mark, but still Chokidar’s fans don’t need to get worried. Good luck to all the
horses.
