Chong Wei Feng claims the crown in the Selangor Open – Badminton news
The Malaysian singles shuttler Chong Wei Feng claimed the crown in Division One of the Selangor Open in Bukit Kiara yesterday.
Wei Feng thrashed his opponent finalist Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin and seized his second national title.
The 24-year-old Wei Feng was dropped from the Thomas Cup qualifiers earlier this month and in absence of Lee Chong Wei in singles event, he was striving to grasp all the attentions through his strong showings.
Wei Feng had to surpass strong competitors as top Malaysian shuttlers Daren Liew, Hafiz Hashim, Arif Abdul Latif and Zulfadli Zulkifli were also trying to pocket full benefits of 10-time national champion Chong Wei’s absence, who decided to play only in
mix doubles category to give young singles shuttlers a chance to rise.
The left handed shuttler Wei Feng overpowered his challenger Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin at the final day of Selangor Open. He hammered his rival with a decisive 2-1 lead on the board.
The young and vibrant Wei Feng was little sluggish at the beginning and trailed far behind his rival Iskandar Zulkarnain on the score board, which cost him first set.  He lost the set with score board showing final figures of 12-21.
However, Wei Feng bounced back in the second set and nailed his opponent with a distinctive margin of 21-8. Iskandar Zulkarnain was no comparison as Wei Feng cornered him in all the departments of game.
The third set concluded the show as Wei Feng hammered his opponent shuttler with 21-14 score on the board. He pushed Iskandar Zulkarnain on back foot with his authoritative charge and Iskandar had no reply to his powerful smashes.
Wei Feng had clear edge over his rival throughout in this 48 minutes fight and put a superlative performance on the judgment day.
He has put the selectors in tight spot after proving his worth in the event. Wei Feng flew for Germany right after claiming this glory.
The Malaysian shuttler is determined to have a perfect start as he is going to test his skills against World Number 25 British player Rajiv Ouseph in the German Open Grand Prix Gold, starting from tomorrow.
