Chong Wei Feng continues his roller-coaster run at 2011 Korea Open Grand Prix Gold – Badminton news
Malaysia’s emerging player, Chong Wei Feng finds a winning track as he has reserved a berth in the round-of-16 after beating Korea’s Jin Hwan Im in the Men’s Singles second round of the 2011 Korea Open Grand Prix Gold, in Korea, on Thursday, December 8.
Wei Feng has been struggling to find a good form for the last six months and finally found the winning run as he has entered into the third round of the Korea Open. In his second-round match against Jin Hwan, the Malaysian put up superb show by playing with
confidence and won the battle in straight games by working for just 25 minutes.
The World Number 76 Wei Feng, who is ranked at number 15 in the Men’s Singles draw of the tournament, played to his maximum potential and took the first game without any considerable fight. However, he had to work a little hard in the second game to chuck
out the young opponent from Korea.
The starting points of the first game created thrill in the match when both shuttlers played with aggression and speed. The score remained close in the opening points but the Malaysian started to work better at net and disturbed the flow of his opponent.
The Korean failed to play positive badminton at the net and executed many lose returns and helped the Malaysian to bury the bird by employing his powerful smashes. Wei Feng was focused in the game and he did not miss any chance to maintain pressure on his
rival. He took the first set with a good difference of 21-15.
In the following set, Jin Hwan tried to play well at the net but failed to execute spinning shots. On the other hand, Wei Feng played effective strokes at the net as his tumbling stokes forced the Korean to make mistakes and he threw many strokes out of
the court or into the net.
The planned and composed play of the Malaysian took away the second game from his local opponent as he finished up the second set with a decent score of 21-17. The final result of this straight-set 25-minute match was 21-15 and 21-17.
