Malaysia’s national back-up player Chong Wei Feng won the Selangor Open title and now wants to continue this winning run at international level by performing well in the upcoming tournaments.
The World Number 57 Wei Feng defied all odds to claim the local title by beating Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin in the final showdown in a thrilling match that took three games of positive play from both sides.
Now, Wei Feng is looking forward to make his presence felt at international stage by putting up good show in major tournaments in the international arena of badminton.
After bagging the Men’s Singles title in the domestic event, Wei Feng said that it is not enough to perform at local level as he must put up strong performances at international level. He also expressed his wish to represent Malaysia in Thomas Cup Finals,
starting from May, in China.
He said, “However, winning a local tournament is not enough... I must start winning international titles too. I aim to do well. Like many other youngsters, I would also like to represent the country at the Thomas Cup Finals.”
Wei Feng wants to achieve good results in international events and in order to get this target he is determined to put in extra effort.
He said, “But to achieve that, I must start doing well in international tournaments.”
The Malaysian has been struggling hard to prove his worth at international level for the last two years but failed to win any major event so far.
However, Wei Feng is determined to show an elevated performance in the forthcoming tournaments.
He left for Germany yesterday to compete at the German Open, which is a Grand Prix Gold tournament and will help shuttlers in getting valuable ranking points.
Wei Feng will start his campaign in the Men’s Singles category by playing against England’s top shuttler Rajiv Ouseph in the opening round of the tournament. Ouseph has been placed at number 25 in the Men’s Singles world rankings.
The spirited Malaysian is confident to live up to the expectations in German Open by putting up strong show against all opponents.
