Chong Wei Feng ready to face Taufik Hidayat at the Indonesia Open Grand Prix Gold – Badminton news
Malaysia’s national shuttler, Chong Wei Feng is determined to face World Number Five shuttler, Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat in the upcoming event of the 2011 Indonesia Open Grand Prix Gold, which will start from September 22 in East Kalimantan.
Wei Feng, who has showed wonderful progress over the last few months and has got 80th position in the Men’s Singles world rankings, is confident to perform well at the forthcoming Grand Prix event.
In the Men’s Singles first round of Indonesia Open, Wei Feng will play against local shuttler, Reksy Aureza Megananda. If the Malaysian passes the first hurdle, he will meet former Olympic and World Champion Taufik, in the pre-quarter-final of the tournament.
The Malaysian has a wonderful opportunity to make his mark over the all-time great shuttler, as the Indonesian is passing through a bad patch and is completely out of form. In recent tournaments including last month’s World Championships and the ongoing
Japan Open Super Series, Taufik lost his matches to lower ranked opponents in opening rounds.
The 24-year-old Wei Feng has been delivering a good performance as he played the Men’s Singles quarter-final at the Taiwan Open. He played wonderful badminton against former World Champion, Chen Jin of China and stretched him to rubber games in last week’s
China Masters Super Series.
Wei Feng said, “My aim is to reach the last 16 where Taufik will most probably be waiting.”
Talking about Taufik’s bad form, the Malaysian said, “Judging from his recent form, I have a chance to chalk up my first win over him ... provided I play my usual game and take advantage of the situation.”
He further added, “The important thing is to maintain my condition and give my all in trainings and competitions.”
Wei Feng and Taufik have met only once at the 2008 Korea Open, where the Indonesian emerged as the winner. Now, the Malaysian has got a chance to level the win-loss stats as he will face Taufik in the round-of-16 at the Indonesia Open Grand Prix Gold.
