Chong Wei Feng ready to shine at the 2011 Vietnam Open Grand Prix – Badminton news
Malaysia’s national player, Chong Wei Feng is confident to put up a strong show in the Men’s Singles draw at the 2011 Vietnam Open Grand Prix, which is starting from August 23, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Wei Feng, who is ranked at Number 149 spot in the Men’s Singles world rankings, has recently attended a training camp at the University of Bath with the whole Malaysian team before the World Championships and is confident to get the fruit of hard training.
The 24-year-old Wei Feng is optimistic that the training camp he attended at Bath will help him in getting good results in the Vietnam Open.
While talking about the training camp of the whole Malaysian national squad at the University of Bath, Wei Feng said, “The centralised training stint at Bath was a good experience for me and hopefully it will bring me good results.”
However, at the Vietnam Open, the Malaysian has got a tough draw as he is set to meet Derek Wong of Singapore, who has recently defeated former Olympic and World Champion, Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia at the 2011 BWF World Championships. Wei Feng said, “I
have not been handed the easiest of draws as Derek has obviously improved a lot. It showed when he beat Taufik in the world championships last month.”
He further added, “However, I will treat every match like a final and will try my best to reach the quarter-finals at least.”
He has won only one international title so far in the Men’s Singles category as he clinched Malaysia International Challenge back in 2009. If everything proceeds according to the expectations for Wei Feng, then he will face the in-form Sho Sasaki of Japan
in the Men’s Singles quarter-finals. The Malaysian is quite passionate to reach the top-8 stage of the event.
The event will also give ranking points for the 2012 London Olympics and all shuttlers will try to play top-class badminton to earn as much points as possible in this event.
