Chong Wei feels better while Hafiz Hashim falls in bitter condition – Badminton Update
Sorrows have certainly come in battalions for Malaysia since when its prime shuttler Lee Chong Wei recovered from his bout of cold another seasoned campaigner Hafiz Hashim fell prey to a sudden injury.
The World Number one shuttler Chong Wei was down owing to fever but he returned to court and started training for Thomas Cup Finals which will be in full swing in Wuhan from May 20-27.
On the other hand, The veteran shuttler Hafiz Hashim, currently ranked 27 in the world, was practicing in Guangzhou training camp in China when he suffered from a foot injury.
Earlier at the beginning of current season, this same injury compelled Hafiz to concede walk over in Korea Open and now it has put his prospects in danger in prestigious team event.
However, Hafiz is confident that he will be able to stretch himself to full in the tournament as he is stepping forward to recovery very carefully.
He said, “My old foot injury is back. I have decided to take it easy because I did not want to aggravate it. I will see how it goes in the next few days. I’m getting all the necessary treatment.”
If Hafiz Hashim does not recuperate then he will be replaced by back-up shuttler Chong Wei Feng and this may jeopardise Malaysia’s stakes in the event.
Meanwhile, when national squad was feeling low, news from back home perked up their morale as maestro Chong Wei announced to join his team-mates in central training camp.
The badminton king stayed back due to his ailment but he did not just warm the benches as he continued light training under the supervision of Tey Seu Bock in Bukit Kiara.
Now Chong Wei is positive to return to his normal exercise and he hoped he will be in right momentum while training with his compatriots in Guangzhou.
He said, “I’m feeling much better and will be leaving for Guangzhou tomorrow to join my team-mates. My body just needed some rest. I will pick up the pace soon.”
The other Malaysian campaigners, sweating hard in joint practice session, are Men’s Singles experts Daren Liew and Chong Wei Feng along with prime Men’s Doubles teams Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong and Goh V Shem-Lim Khim Wah.
