Chong Wei intends to keep his arms at rest for few weeks – Badminton News
The badminton maestro of Malaysia, Lee Chong Wei has decided to keep his arms at rest for few weeks and ended the guessing game, about his participation in the Axiata Cup on March 20, 2012.
The first million-dollar team event in badminton history, the Axiata Cup is set to be held from March 23- 25 in Kuala Lumpur Badminton stadium and the Malaysians will not have the pleasure to watch Chong Wei swinging his arms in opening round of the event.
Earlier, national coach Seu Bock hoped that the World Number one shuttler will participate in the future events to lead the country to glory but Chong Wei showed his intentions about giving rest to his paining shoulder for a couple of weeks.
He said, "Right now I cannot comment on my chance of playing in the preliminary rounds of the Axiata Cup because the result will only be out tomorrow. But for sure I will not be able to play this week."
The badminton ace lost a golden chance to seize a hat-trick crown in All England Open due to this shoulder injury which allowed the World Number two Lin Dan to bag the title for record fifth time.
These two giants of badminton arena are expected finalists of London Olympics and badminton lovers are impatiently waiting for this clash of the titans where Chong Wei will be looking for an avenging victory.
Probably this was the reason that he decided not to put his injured shoulder in extra effort by playing in less important events. This has disappointed his spectators to some extent who were hoping to see the champ on his toes in the Axiata Cup.
However, Chong Wei did not bury their hopes at once by saying that he will wait for the final reports from the doctors of KPJ Damansara Specialist Hospital to resume his activity on court.
He said, "I will wait for the result tomorrow. Right now I have only been jogging but not training on the court."
Malaysia has fielded two teams in Axiata Cup and Lee Chong Wei was supposed to lead the Malaysia A team which comprises prime shuttlers like Hafiz Hashim, Arif Abdul Latif and Daren Liew.
The event is going to be played under league format and Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore, Philippines and Thailand are the other countries participating in the event.
