Chong Wei is blessed with a dream India Open draw – Badminton Update
The Malaysian ace, Lee Chong Wei must be very lucky as he gets a dream draw in the Yonex Sunrise India Open set to be held from April 24, 2012.
World Number one shuttler is making comeback after short break due to a shoulder injury which he received in All-England final against archrival Lin Dan from China.
Maestro Chong Wei missed a couple of tournaments and now the India Open will be a test flight before the 2012 London Olympics. He has been resting his hurt shoulder for the last few weeks and is now ready to swing his arms but he will try to avoid over straining
before the mega event.
Malaysia will bank on other shuttlers like Daren Liew, Hafiz Hashim and Chong Wei Feng in the Men’s Singles event in New Delhi.
The defending champion, Chong Wei will not have to face much trouble in the India Open as his biggest Chinese opponents, the World Number two Lin Dan and World Number three Chen Long, are not participating in the event.
Moreover, someone must be smiling at him as he is blessed with an easy draw. He is placed in top half of the draw where he will start his marathon against the Taipei shuttler Hsueh Hsuan Yi and a win will pit him against either Rajiv Ouseph from England
or the Indian contender Ajay Jayaram in the pre quarter-finals.
If Chong Wei, who is top seeded player of the event, proceeds in the round of eight he will have to surpass former World and Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat or relatively inexperienced Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka from Indonesia.
By clearing quarter-final challenge, he will find himself against another spirited shuttler of Indonesia, Simon Santoso or the Japanese competitor Sho Sasaki in the second last round of the Indian Open.
However, it is not a smooth ride for him throughout his marathon as World Number four Danish maestro Peter Hoeg Gade and the premium Chinese shuttler Chen Jin will be his biggest hurdles in this race for glory.
Chong Wei will be wary of the World Number five Chen Jin who is in supreme touch after winning two consecutive titles, the Swiss Open and Australian Open.
Moreover, Chen Jin will put all he has to cement his spot in top four shuttlers of the world as he is in a quest for a seat in the 2012 London Olympics. The Malaysian star will sweat hard in the final round of the India Open.
