I know this is not what you want to hear, but I would most certainly choose oil to the United States.  Petro-chemicals are used across the entire spectrum of the US economy.  There isn't one sector that is not affected by price increases, or supply shortages.  It is a required ingredient of daily life, regardless of the climate, location, or topography.  The economic and socio-economic forces are beyond staggering. You could not brush your teeth without oil, or turn on the lights, or eat breakfast, or go to work, etc., etc....  It is the most pervasive and influential product/commodity (aside from air and water) currently in existence.
