I have a choice of Spanish and Latin for high school, but I don't know which to pick. I know enough Spanish to carry out a very basic conversation and I my vocabulary isn't impressive =(. Or I could learn Latin. Any suggestions?

  1. I would recommend taking Spanish. Latin is an interesting language and I know that most people say you should take it to help you on the SATs, etc, but any Romance language (like Spanish) can help with that a lot. Tons of people speak Spanish, and it's getting more commonly used in the US. Knowing a language that you can actually use (Latin is a dead language, after all) just seems a lot more practical. Maybe I'm a little biased because I love Spanish, but I think Spanish would be a better choice.

  2. If you want to be able to go out into the world and travel and use the language then definitely do spanish. however by learning latin it will make your english vocab better and possibly make it easier to learn other languages.

  3. i think you should go for spanish....

  4. Hi! Well dear all I can say is that you're facing the same situation which I faced some years ago!! I'll advice you to go for Spanish...........coz I find it easier................now the choice is yours!! And concerning your vocabulary why don't you do some reading to improve it! That's what I did and believe me It helps a lot. wish you luck! hope you'll be able to make the right choice!

  5. It depends on what you are looking for. Spanish is one of them most useful languages in our world today, and is spoken by around 400 million people. Fluency in Spanish would be very helpful to you depending on what you want to do. Latin is a dead language since no one speaks it as their native language, so it is pretty much useless. However, it is a very interesting language and many words today take their roots from Latin, especially when dealing with science. So choose depending on what you plan to do with your second language.

  6. In my opinion Latin sounds nicer, but Spanish would definitely be more useful to you. Its FAR more widely spoken and if you carried it on after high school it could open many employment doors for you.

    Good Luck

  7. If you are very into history stuff, go for Latin, otherwise Spanish is the right choice.

  14. Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world; who speaks latin?  If you want to become a member of the catholic clergy then latin would be a good choice.  Otherwise.....you do the math!
