Question:

Choosing a real estate agent

What questions should I ask when interviewing real estate agents to represent me as a buyer? I have met one over the internet (we're moving to Hawaii) and he has disappointed us a couple ways so far. I'm wondering if he's inexperienced or something.. Other than "how many years have you been a real estate agent?" what other pertinent questions should I ask?

  1. Agents with more years in the industry do not always mean they are better for you, the buyer.  You should look for someone who has a good track record working with buyers.  Many seasoned agents will not work with buyers because buyers "are too much work to deal with".

Ask broad based questions and listen to the answers:

    - Why do I choose you over another agent?

    - Ask for references (and followup on them)

    - Check with friends and relatives and get referrals from them.

There are many great agents out there.  You should be able to find one by putting some very worthwhile time.

  2. Just get in the car and go out with 5 different agents.  There are no questions you can ask that will get to the heart of the matter.  Just watch what they do and say. /

  3. Bottom line is all real estate agents are crooks.  Don't believe any word they say.
