Question:

Choosing an Advanced Digital Camera

I wish I could afford a digital SLR camera, but since they are a pit too pricey, I'm trying to find an advanced digital camera. As of now, I'm looking at either the Nikon Coolpix P80 or the Olympus SP-570 UZ. It sucks that to get high fps out of an advanced digital camera, which I'm trying to do for sporting events, MP has to be set lower. Just looking for opinions from anyone who may have one or additional knowledge. Thanks!

  1. To shoot sports, high fps is the last thing you need.  That is what we call machine-gunning the athlete.  The chances of you actually getting the shot you want is a crapshoot.

What is needed is a camera with a low shutter lag time (only DSLR's can provide this) and knowing the sport well enough to be able to time the peak of action.

All P&S cameras have some level of shutter lag and missed shots are problematic with P&S cameras
