I just got this television for Christmas:

and I was wondering which of these upconverting DVD players I should get:

Thanks for any help.

  1. Do you really think there is a difference between $35 DVD players?

  2. At 19" and 720p I would suggest trying a normal progressive DVD player since it's likely the video processing built into the HDTV will do as good a job as an inexpensive upconverting DVD player.

If you don't have a DVD player, of the three the Phillips or RCA are probably the best, and of these the Phillips appears to have the videst flexibility for playing other things than DVDs.

  3. In my experience, Phillips products have generally been better in build/features/quality, than the other two brands you've listed.

If I were to rank it, it would be as follows:

    1.Phillips

    2.RCA

    3.Magnavox
