Question:

Chop meat slightly turning colors?

does that mean it is bad. it doesn't smell bad or anything. i had a room mate who was not all there and ate alot of rotted meat(who since past at 38) so i might just be paranoid. i know they dye the meats for appeal and stuff maybe it's just losing the dye. i don't know.

  1. It will turn brown when it's exposed to air - so that could be the problem, if it wasn't completely covered.  It may also turn color if it gets freezer burn.  But, if it's been properly refrigerated, it should be fine




  2.    ground meat is good for about 5 days after you buy it and turning color is a natural thing called oxidation which the meat suffacates therefore it turns dark from the inside out. the leaner the meat the faster it turns little fat and no air pockets in it to breathe.

      last we don't add and color to meat , it is against the law to do that in every state. Been in meat business for 40 yrs. and have never added dye to it, maybe you bought from a small market that did it, but only way they would be doing it today is in a large city with no inspections done.no chain store do it and I even worked for small markets that never did it.
