There are 5 people currently living under one roof, I need a good way to assign chores fairly, which can be rotated each week. Does anyone know how I could do that? I need to keep it organized and easy to understand.

  1. I'm the oldest of four kids, which meant my mom and dad had to get us organized in order to keep the house looking nice.

What worked best for us was this:

We had a white board with all of our names (including Mom and Dad) written on it permanently. Then the days of the week were written across the top. (They decided to do a Monday through Saturday so we could have our day of rest.) Next to our names got put a magnet with our chore for the week. The chores that they had for everyone were: loading and unloading the dishwasher, cleaning the bathroom, cleaning the living room, taking care of the dog (which included feeding and walking), cleaning the dining room, and cleaning the kitchen. They purposely picked tasks that affected everyone as well as everyone else's tasks. (i.e. the person cleaning the kitchen depended on the person doing the dishwasher to keep up with their chore.)

And every week we rotated chores. It was the fairest way that they could have organized us. Obviously, it didn't run perfectly, but it worked very well.

Also, if we did not keep up with our chore for the week, we would not be allowed to do anything special during the week or at the end of the week. This included hanging out with friends a lot. And our parents always kept up with theirs, so they didn't really have any consequences to deal with.

I don't know how old everyone in your house is, but you may need to adjust the ideas for chores to suit the ages, obviously.

Sorry I wrote a lot, but I hope I helped.

  2. Everyone should be responsible for their own rooms- assuming that we aren't talking about toddlers.

A family meeting with a chart of the chores needed is a good idea. Don't expect everyone to be happy, though: Someone always complains about how 'it's not fair'.

    Good luck!

  3. Have a family meeting and all of them decide upon what's fair for them to do, etc.  Then put the chart up.

  4. sometimes asking them all which chore they would prefer first and on down the line to ast can help then, make them perform those chose that way
