Chris Adcock, Imogen Bankier clutch a spot in second round of 2012 Yonex French Badminton Open
Mixed Doubles partners Chris Adcock and Imogen Bankier showed superb coordination and secured a pre quarter-final berth in the Yonex French Badminton Open on October 24, 2012.
This opening round match was played at local badminton arena of Paris and it lasted for 28 minutes before ending with concluding margin of 21-15 and 21-16.
World Number 24 pair forged a fruitful chemistry and outclassed Roman Zirnwald-Elisabeth Baldauf in all departments of the game.
Chris Adcock and Imogen Bankier, who belong to England and Scotland respectively, established their grip from very initial stage and maintained that upper hand all the way to the final moments.
The opening game set the overall tempo of the match as both contenders gave each other a tough time in the beginning and made the crowd gasp with a mesmerising performance.
Roman and Elisabeth were bit cautious in the beginning as they were trying to read their rivals’ game and this strategy resulted in a tight margin of 6-6 in first half of the set.
However, they changed their tactics and played aggressive badminton to place an indomitable figure of 11 at half time.
At this stage, Adcock and Bankier employed all of their brilliance and bounced back with a strong reply.
They gathered valuable points at steady pace and won first set of the match with a notable difference in 21-15 score on the board.
The following game was just a replay of previous one as at first the Austrian campaigners gained an early advantage but they frittered away their effort in later part of the game.
Adcock and Bankier, who remained at lower end in the establishing rallies, did not squander this opportunity and pocketed seven consecutive points after 8-11.
Though, Roman and Elisabeth also put a decent show of skills in third quarter of the set but they could not tip the scale in their favour.
They kept trailing behind until Adcock-Bankier swept the table with a staggering knock of 21-16.
Now the victorious duo will lock horns with another underrated pair Robert Blair-Vita Marissa and a win will take them into quarter-finals of this Super Series.
