England’s top Men’s Doubles shuttlers Chris Adcock and Andrew Ellis put up staggering show of top quality badminton as they defeated their higher ranked rivals Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan at Thomas Cup Finals 2012 in China, on Monday, May 21.
However, Indonesia won this team-event fight against England with a 4-1 margin on the score board.
The World Number 23 Adcock and Ellis showed their impressive performance in the first Men’s Doubles fight and surprised everyone by beating the ruling Olympic Champions Kido and Setiawan who are currently World Number 9.
The English shuttlers were in full swing while playing against the Indonesians and they wrapped up superb win in hard-fought three games by consuming 52 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Kido and Setiawan tried their best to dominate the pace of rallies but failed to live up to expectations and eventually lost the fight in three games without creating a strong impact.
In the opening set, the lower ranked Adcock and Ellis played with wonderful confidence as they did not let their higher ranked opponents to dictate the pace at any stage and remained close until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Adcock and Ellis continued their stunning run in the court while remaining focused in the court and managed to wrap up the first set with a tight 21-19 score on the board.
In the second game, the Indonesians played different badminton as they remained dominant in this time and took a reasonable lead on the board until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Adcock and Ellis tried to inject more power in their shots but failed to take any benefit and eventually lost the second game with a 14-21 difference on the score board.
In the deciding set, both pairs showed remarkable performance in the court as they played an attacking badminton and remained neck-to-neck until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Adcock and Ellis took over the control of rallies and pushed their rivals on the back foot. They were in commanding position and easily took the final set with a superb score of 21-17.
Adcock and Ellis won this Men’s Doubles battle in three games with a remarkable 21-19, 14-21 and 21-17 score on the board.
