Chris Adcock – Imogen Bankier stamp their supremacy in Britain – Badminton news
Britain’s top seeded players Chris Adcock and Imogen Bankier stand a good chance to qualify for the Olympic Games as they proved their supremacy over their compatriots Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork in Mixed Doubles round-of-16 at Swiss Open GP Gold
2012 in Switzerland, on Thursday, March 15.
Adcock and Bankier, who have got an elevated 14th position in Mixed Doubles world rankings, had to work really hard to beat their experienced opponents in a nail-biting contest and emerged as the winners in three games.
On the other hand, the World Number 17 Robertson and Wallwork played tremendous badminton for 68 minutes but remained unlucky in the ending phase of third game and lost the fight with a narrow margin.
Robertson and Wallwork played dominating badminton in the first set and managed a convincing lead until the one-minute break.
Adcock and Bankier geared up their speed and played aggressive badminton. They levelled the score in the concluding half of first set by reaching at 13-13.
However, they failed to play positive badminton in the ending points and lost the set with a close margin of 19-21.
In the second game, Adcock and Bankier showed their brilliance as they remained in full control of rallies and did not show any respect to their team-mates in first half of the game and were ahead on the score board.
The higher ranked Adcock and Bankier were in full swing in the second game as they did not let their opponents to fight back in the game at any stage and bagged the set with a tremendous score of 21-11.
In the final set, both British couples put up wonderful show of fast and positive badminton as they remained close throughout the contest in the opening half.
After the break, they continued playing with precision and progressed equally until the score reached at the ending points when Adcock and Bankier managed to play dominating game and won the set with a dramatic margin of 25-23.
Adcock and Bankier emerged as the winners of this thrilling contest with a dramatic 19-21, 21-11 and 25-23 score on the board.
