Chris Allison denies presence of extra U.S. officials at London 2012 Olympics
Chris Allison, who is the security coordinator of the London 2012 Olympic Games, recently clarified the issue of the overwhelming presence of U.S. security officials as well as officials from other nations at the Olympic Games
next year.
The report that the Olympic 2012 Summer Games is seeking help from 1000 U.S. security officials was made public by The Guardian, which is one of the leading newspaper in England.
Having said that, Allison also confirmed that officials from various nations would be accompanying their delegations at the Olympic Games next year for the purpose of providing them safety and security. However, the numbers in
which they will be coming to event will not be significant. Not only that, the security officials from other countries will not be given access to front line security, as that would be the responsibility of the Olympics security officials as well as the British
security.
However, one of the top 2012 Olympics official admitted that the security needs at the Olympic Games next year will be greater than expected and consequent measures would have to be taken in order to deal with the situation. As
far as the streets that have been exclusively allotted for the Olympic traffic go, they will be under patrol by British police officers only. However, the various Olympic Games venues will need added security that will probably have to be provided by volunteers.
While talking about possible political as well as peaceful protests that might accompany the London 2012 Olympic Games, Allison made the following comments: "That doesn't give them the right to go and disrupt other people and stop
the games from going ahead. … The focus for all of us next year must be on this fantastic sporting spectacle. We want to make sure it goes ahead as it should."
The Olympic Games are heading towards London for the third time in the city’s history, after having successfully hosted the event next year, the capital of England will become the first city in the world to have the honour of playing
host to the Olympic Games three times.
