Chris Andersen likely to agree to a veteran’s minimum contract with the Knicks – NBA Report
Chris ‘Birdman’ Andersen still remains a free agent this summer and no lucrative offers have come the way of one of NBA’s most prominent crowd entertainer so far.
According to recent speculation, after waiting much, the experienced power forward is more than willing to play for a veteran’s minimum contract.
This recent rumour is bound to get some attention from teams all around the NBA, as most rosters could use player like Andersen who can block shots and give the team an offensive boost in short stints off the bench.
There are many teams which need to add some steel on the front court, but at the moment the Knicks are the franchise strongly pursuing the signature if Andersen. The Big Apple franchise has been in pursuit of Kenyon Martin for
some time but the forward who played for the Los Angeles Clippers last season is not looking to sign a veteran’s minimum.
Given the financial situation of the organization, Andersen could be their best bid to keep their bench strong.
As star studded as the Knicks line up may be, they still have room to add a quality reserve power forward to their arsenal, one that could provide breathing space to Amare Stoudemire and also play an effective role alongside Carmelo
Anthony.
The plus point of having Andersen in the Knicks roster would be that the 34 year big has experience of playing alongside J.R Smith and Carmelo Anthony from their days together at the Denver Nuggets.
Andersen was amnestied by the Nuggets only recently and going to a lucrative nig market team like New York may not be bad at all for the Birdman.
Another factor that can play an effective role in Andersen signing with the Knicks is that he is represented by the CAA – a firm that also represents Anthony and Mike Woodson along with 4 other Knicks.
However, nothing is certain at the moment as the Knicks already have 15 players presently on their roster. But that still does not rule the possibility of the Birdman acquisition as Chris Smith is on a non-guaranteed contract and
can be sent over to the D-League.
