Chris Anker Sorensen thrilled to ride along Alberto Contador
While Team Saxo-Tinkoff is still not certain of its World Tour status, Chris Anker Sorensen is really excited to ride along Alberto Contador at the Tour de France 2013.
The team will receive an automatic invitation to the race if UCI grants it the World Tour status for 2013 however, if the team fails to impress UCI, it will have to rely on a wild-card entry to qualify for the event.
Team Saxo-Tinkoff is currently in competition with Team Argos-Shimano and only one of the two mentioned sides will be allowed to enjoy the top level of the sport.
Sorensen cited that helping Contador winning the Tour de France 2013 will be a real highlight of his career and he looks forward to help the Spaniard claiming the top overall position at the race.
While stating on the matter, he said on the team’s website that the Danish team is fully equipped with top performers and has pretty strong chances to be one of the top teams of the new season.
“I'm looking forward to seeing how Kreuziger will develop. He will certainly be a big help for Alberto in the big races but I'm sure that he at some point will get a chance of his own during the season,” he said.
“The wide range of quality riders also makes it harder to get a spot in the Tour de France line-up than was the case this year. I'm not sure of getting a spot”.
“It is the biggest race existing and to be able to win overall with Alberto would be the biggest highlight of my career,” he concluded.
The Danish team signed several new cyclists for the new season and the inclusion of Nicolas Roche and Roman Kreuziger will definitely provide ample support for Alberto to grab an overall victory at the French Grand Tour.
Sorensen is targeting the Ardennes Classics as a major goal of his 2013 season after starting his New Year campaign at the UCI Inaugural event, the Santos Tour Down Under 2013.
Contador missed the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia this year because of a two-year doping suspension but he had enough strength in him to claim an overall victory at the third and the final Grand Tour race of the season, the Vuelta a Espana 2012.
