Chris Ashton to make 100th appearance for Northampton Saints in encounter against London Wasps – Rugby News
Wigan born English professional Rugby Union player, Christopher Ashton, commonly known as Chris Ashton is all set to make his 100th appearance for the Franklin’s Garden based English
professional Rugby Union outfit, Northampton Saints.
Ashton will make his 100th appearance during the Northampton Saints' 2011/12 Aviva Premiership round eight encounter against the London Wasps. Satins will take on the Wasps on Sunday,
November 6 at Adams Park, Wycombe.
Saints have announced their squad for their upcoming clash against the Wasps, which confirms Ashton making his 100th appearance. Saints have announced their squad on Friday, November
4, naming Ashton in the starting lineup at the winger position.
Northampton Saints Director of Rugby, Jim Mallinder, has congratulated Ashton on achieving this milestone. He acknowledges Ashton’s hard work over the years expressed his delight on the progress
Ashton has made as a player at the club. However, he added that Ashton has the potential to do the more and become a much better player then what he is. He said, “ We've seen Chris develop a lot as a rugby union player over the past four years, but there is
still plenty for him to learn and his 99 appearances for the Saints represent just about his entire experience in the sport.”
Mallinder further added, “Chris may have scored twice last week but he will have to keep playing at the top of his game to stay in our team, as will every other player.” He added that there
is great competition amongst the quality players like Paul Diggin, Scott Armstrong, and Jamie Elliott for Ashton’s spot and Ashton really has to be on his toe all the time to keep his place in the starting lineup.
The 24-year-old Ashton made his professional Rugby debut for Wigan Warriors in 2005. He remained at Warriors until 2006/07 season where he made 52 appearances and scored 120 points. He joined
Saints at the start of the 2007/08 season. Current season is his fourth consecutive season at Saints, where he so far has made 99 appearances and scored 442 points including 88 tries.
