Chris Bosh: From Miami Heat to Sacramento Kings – NBA Fantasy Transfer spotlight (Part 1)
The star cast that assembled at the Miami Heat last year, with LeBron James in the lead role and Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh as the sidekicks, failed to follow the script in the face of the battle hardened Dirk Nowitzki and his crew of old timers.
Ever since the Miami Heat lost the NBA Finals to the veteran Dallas Mavericks, the rumour mill has been running wild. The Big Three failed to deliver in their first attempt at an NBA Championship. So what is the logical course of action now?
Break them up! Somebody shouted from the crowd, and the media picked up on it. For the immediate weeks after the Finals, the papers were full of talk about some drastic trades at the South Beach. Someone had Chris Bosh leaving and another predicted LeBron would pack his bags after just one year in south beach.
Eventually, it took a categorical statement from Miami Heat President of Basketball Operations, Pat Riley, that none of the Big Three will be traded, which calmed the storm of speculation.
However, it didn’t stop it completely. Every now and then, a rumour pops up about Miami Heat trading one of their prized assets.
This time around it’s Chris Bosh.
Bosh has perhaps been the star, most linked with a move away from Miami and his latest speculated destination is Sacramento. Although, there’s no official word about it, nor much credible info, still whispers can be heard justifying a move to the Sacramento Kings.
On the face of it, it seems very unlikely that any movement will actually be witnessed. However, a quick glance at the requirements and the constraints of the two sides reveal that a trade could actually work for both sides.
The Heat’s biggest weakness is not at the point guard position, as many may have led you to believe. Mike Bibby was there just to make up the numbers last year, but that’s actually exactly what Miami wanted.
Playmaking for that franchise is the job of LeBron James, who took on that role in full towards the end of last season and excelled in it. Mario Chalmers on the other hand, showed some ability when it comes to scoring and knocked down some big shots. The player is young and is exactly what the Heat need at the point guard position, a scoring threat that can stretch the court, giving their superstars more roam to attack the rim.
The weakness for the Heat lied at the Centre. Joel Anthony started for the Heat at this position in the playoffs and put in some splendid performances. But that should not cloud the fact that Anthony is overall a player, limited by his frame. He stands at 6ft-9in, and lacks in offensive ability. As hard as he might try, Anthony is just not a starting centre for a Championship chasing side.
Another aspect that Miami would want to improve on is the number of young, energetic players coming off the bench. Last year they just had old, weary veterans the likes of whom head coach Erik Spoelstra regularly left on the bench for complete games.
