Chris Bosh: From Miami Heat to Sacramento Kings – NBA Fantasy Transfer spotlight: Part 2
The Sacramento Kings can provide the Miami Heat with a solution to both of their problems. They would just like to have Chris Bosh in return, because Bosh represents what the Kings need to make the step up in quality, a genuine
NBA star. The perennial All-Star certainly has the qualities and the experience to put the Kings back on the map of NBA relevancy and guide their young talented squad to the playoffs.
A frontcourt partnership of Bosh and DeMarcus Cousins could be lethal indeed.
What can the Kings offer in return?
Well they have a certain 30 year old centre, who stands 6-foot-11 and can actually score. His name is Samuel Dalembert. The veteran has been around for a while and will provide the Heat with the steel and size they require at centre
to mount a successful charge at the NBA World Championship.
Also, the Kings have a number of talented young players from whom the Heat could take their pick. The most suited to them in the humble opinion of this scribe would be Sacramento’s newest acquisition, J.J. Hickson.
Hickson just came in from the Cleveland Cavaliers that saw Israeli forward Omri Casspi go in the other direction. Hickson is a young player full of confidence as well as talent. He is tough kid and likes to take the ball to the
rim, evidenced by his regular trips to the line. He put up stellar numbers for the Cavs last season and could actually do a pretty decent job filling in for Chris Bosh at the Miami Heat, where the presence of LeBron James and Dwyane Wade is bound to give him
more opportunities at scoring as well as make him a better player.
Miami would also easily get both Dalembert and Hickson in return for Chris Bosh, as well as a couple of future Draft picks. Those the Heat can use to gradually infuse their roster with young talent and phase out the old guard -
a process that has already begun under the watchful gaze of Pat Riley.
With a starting line-up of Dalembert, J.J. Hickson, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Mario Chalmers at point guard, the Miami Heat would be a very formidable threat, not that they aren’t one now. However, the Miami side of today lacks
the balance that is present in the speculative line up mentioned above, where each member has a clear role and the qualities to perform the assigned role.
In the end, the most telling argument for this trade to take place is salary cap space, or the lack of it. Miami made a profit despite paying the salaries of three superstars last year, however that doesn’t make up for the fact
that they are in trouble with the salary cap. It doesn’t help their cause much that the owners are h**l bent on introducing a hard cap (although they seem willing to call it something else, “flex cap” anyone?) which could in practice force the Heat to break
up their trio of stars.
In the given financial predicament, the above mentioned trade could be a heaven sent for the Heat. Sacramento have plenty on cap space (they had one of the lowest overall payrolls last season) and wouldn’t mind one bit taking over
Chris Bosh’s mega contract. On the other hand, Dalembert is a veteran and doesn’t command the relatively high salary he once used to while J.J. Hickson is still on his rookie deal. Therefore, the trade would take a lot of strain off Miami’s salary situation
and leave them in good health to maybe even try and sign a free agent.
It’s all speculation at present, but if the new CBA is as restrictive as the owners want it to be, lookout for this trade.
