Chris Bosh admits the pressure got to him last season – NBA Report
Miami Heat forward Chris Bosh conceded in a recent interview that the Heat’s struggles last season did unhinge him from time to time. Miami became one of the most hated teams in American sports history last season after assembling
a super star trio of Bosh, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade.
The manner in which the three players were brought together, and some ill advised antics on their part, resulted in Miami being vilified from start to finish. The Big Three of James, Chris and Wade had to face unprecedented criticism
and jeering wherever they went.
Added to that were Miami’s struggles on the basketball court. A splendidly talented roster was expected to sweep all before them even when the season hadn’t started. However the Heat couldn’t click right away and wilted under the
media glare.
There were numerous issues inside the locker room. LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, who is a lifelong Heat player, were reported to be jousting over the leadership role in the team. There were visible cracks appearing in terms of
the roles they had in offense. Who would be the ball handler? Who would take the clutch shots? The team was deemed to be a haphazard collection of too many alpha dogs.
Chris Bosh in particular struggled because of his esteemed teammates. In a team that featured two of the best basketball players on the planet, Bosh was seen as a bit of an afterthought. Chris had been the franchise player at the
Toronto Raptors for years, so he wasn’t used to playing second fiddle, let alone third.
The media too found him easier to pick on and various deficiencies in his game were highlighted time and again.
The Heat in the end came through all their troubles to qualify as a top seed for the playoffs. They dominated the Eastern Conference beating the Chicago Bulls, Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers on their way to the NBA Finals.
Bosh though has conceded that at times all the scrutiny and struggles were too much to take,
“Well, I mean we are human. That stuff kind of bums you out a lot. You try to have thick skin. You have thick skin then. You eventually reach your tipping point where it gets to you.”
When asked if there was a tipping point?
“Yeah I mean we reached that. I know me, myself, I reached it a bunch of times because it’s like I like watching SportsCenter or something like that. I may chose not to watch it tonight because we didn’t do too well. I used to
watch it as many times, but that’ll get cut down a little bit because I can assume what is going to be said and what is going to happen, so I just let it roll off. At the end of the day we are going to be…like I said it’s hard, it’s tough, but it makes you
better. That’s all I really care about.”
