Chris Bosh expresses surprise at the animosity shown against Miami Heat last season – NBA Update
Chris Bosh sat down for an interview recently and revealed that although last season was a good one for the Miami Heat, he was taken aback at the animosity shown towards his side. Miami became the most vilified team in all the land last season after they brought together a super star trio of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
The “Big Three” as they are now known, are super star players, arguably the 3 of the top 10 in the league. In fact, Wade and LeBron are considered by many as 2 of the top 3 in the world. Bringing together such lavish talent produced great results for Miami, though the P.R. side of things did not go as well.
It all started with LeBron James ill-fated “Decision”. James was a free agent last summer and was widely expected to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers, to the ire of that team and its fans. To make matters worse, James decided to announce his decision of joining the Heat through a live national broadcast, without informing the Cavaliers.
A media storm erupted, along with the anger of Cavaliers fans, as well as those teams’ whom LeBron turned down in order to join Miami. Things went further downhill when James, Wade and Bosh were presented to Heat fans in a weird on stage dance fest c*m celebration. That really did not go down well with the larger NBA community.
Since then Miami have been public enemy number one. They were booed in every away game they played; the games against Cleveland were particularly spicy. The criticism continued all throughout the season and their loss against the underdog Dallas Mavericks brought the Heat haters out in force to gloat at their expense.
Bosh accepts it was a roller coaster ride in many ways. The Heat struggled on the court and off it, had trouble getting used to playing together and defining their roles in the team, but the forward conceded that most shocking was the anger they faced from the general NBA fans.
“I think the most surprising thing without a shadow beyond a doubt was the media coverage, the attention, and really just the response from a lot of people. When we were playing on the road it was like ‘man they are really against us right now.’ ”
In hindsight, things did go a little over the top with the Miami bashing. People were tuning in just to watch them fail. However, it is also true that the Heat did themselves no favours at all with their handling of the situation.
Hopefully next season everyone can show a little more common sense.
