Miami Heat All Star forward hitting the weight room in preparation of playing at the five position next season.....
The Miami Heat were successful last season in part because they had LeBron James on their roster, one of the most versatile players in the league.
James played at the three as well as four spot last season for Miami, and even did some solid defending against some of the better guards in the league. His defence earned him a spot in the All Defensive team last season, and he
even got a few votes for defensive player of the year.
James’ ability to play at the four helped the Heat play with a small line-up, with Chris Bosh at the centre. Bosh, who has played most of his career as a power forward, provides the athleticism and quickness for Miami to play a
fast paced game, relying on fast breaks and transition.
This season, with LeBron coming off playing the four position at the London Olympics successfully, Miami may once again use him as a power forward and Bosh at five. It allows them flexibility, one of the strengths of his Heat line-up.
And in order to prepare himself to play centre, Bosh is getting himself into shape so that he is able to handle the physical play that comes with the position, and compete with some of the big guys in the league like Andrew Bynum, Dwight Howard and Roy Hibbert.
Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald has reported that Bosh is hitting the weight room in preparation for next season, and looking to add a few pounds of muscle so that he is ready to play a full season at the five spot.
“Chris Bosh is adding bulk (six pounds of lean muscle) to prepare for the rigors of playing a full season at center. The Heat is still giving thought about whether to sign former Knicks center Josh Harrellson, who worked out for
them the past week,” reported Jackson.
The main strength and advantage with Bosh is that he is a big man but is very quick on his feet, can drive and is a decent shooter as well. Hence, Miami do not want him bulking too much, as that will affect other areas of his game.
However, a few pounds might be helpful for Bosh when he faces off against some of the bigger guys in the league.
