Chris Bosh opens up about his injury; Wants Miami Heat to keep rolling without him – NBA Update
Miami Heat Power Forward Chris Bosh is likely to miss the remainder of their series with the Indiana Pacers with a strained abdominal muscle.
Bosh underwent an MRI on his abdomen yesterday which confirmed that he had strained a muscle, possibly keeping him out of action for even more time than the series against the Pacers. The MRI however confirmed that the injury is not a tear, which would have been a huge setback.
The Heat have not indicated any timeline on his return, but will wait for him to fully recover before he is added to the playing squad. Bosh suffered the injury in game 1 against the Pacers on Sunday night. He went up for a dunk over Pacers centre Roy Hibbert, and fell to his knees holding his abdomen after the play.
Bosh spoke to reporters on Monday which was a practice day for the Miami team.
“Our team is going to be successful, and whether I’m playing or not I’m still going to be a part of that. I just have to make sure that I support them any kind of way and, you know, this season has to be extended for me to play again” said Bosh.
“We’re going to try to make sure everything is solid before I get back out there so I don’t make it worse. We preach all these things all the time about it’s going to be tough and it’s a long hard road and you’ve got to deal with the bumps. Well, my bump is here and I just have to make sure I get over it” added Bosh
The Eastern Conference Finals will commence either on May 26th or 28th, which will give Bosh 11-13 days to recover in time for them, if the Heat make it that far.
Manu Ginobili of the San Antonio Spurs had earlier missed two weeks of action with a similar injury this season. Utah’s Al Jefferson, on the other hand, did not miss a single game when he strained his abdominal muscle. So it is hard to specify how long it will take Bosh to return. For the moment, he and the Miami team are hoping he is back for the next round.
In his absence, Coach Erik Spoelstra did not specify his new lineup, but there is a possibility that Ronny Turiaf gets the nod to start at centre and Udonis Haslem continues to play at the power forward position.
LeBron James, who played Power Forward in the game 1 victory against the Pacers, has ruled out him playing in that position again and would like to return to his normal position at small forward. What combination Spoelstra uses in game 2 against the Pacers remains to be seen, but Bosh’s injury has certainly given Heat a big headache.
