Chris Bosh still not looking at overseas option – NBA Update
Miami Heat power forward Chris Bosh doesn’t like the situation at home, but he is still not convinced about going abroad either.
The NBA lockout has dragged on for over 4 months now and with recent developments not giving any hope to players, it is only natural for them to look across the Atlantic.
The NBA lockout began in July when the old Collective Bargaining Agreement expired and a new one doesn’t seem anywhere close on the horizon. The NBA owners and David Stern have been holding out for a deal that would massively favour
them, which the players are unwilling to give.
Things have gotten to the point where National Basketball Players Association announced a decertification and lawsuits have been filed against Stern and the owners.
It does not look good, but Chris said he is holding out until the season is definitely cancelled. His hand could be forced then, but some pre-requisites would still have to be met.
"I guess for me personally, it's probably when the whole season is (lost), if it gets to that point," Bosh said. "If it gets to that point where there is no chance there is a season, then I might consider it. But even then a lot
of things have to happen. It's no telling what kind of activity is going on over there with those teams."
Bosh is part of the Miami Big Three, with Dwyane Wade and LeBron James the other two members. The three superstars have by and large not been interested in playing overseas, but that isn’t a fair reflection of the mood among the
larger NBA community.
An overseas expedition was on the mind of many players even before the lockout started. Super star players such as Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers and Oklahoma City Thunder’s two-time NBA scoring champion Kevin Durant have
regularly flirted with the idea.
Some, like Deron Williams of the New Jersey Nets, are already playing in Europe, with an escape clause inserted into their contracts that would allow them to return if the NBA lockout is lifted. Still other, such as J.R. Smith
and Kenyon Martin of the Denver Nuggets, have gone to China and won’t be back until next season even if the lockout ends today.
Chris is still more concerned with what is happening at home. He wants to play basketball, and he wants to do it in the NBA. For the moment, it’s simply out of his hands, and the player is content to play a waiting game.
“So, everybody is where they are now and I guess we just have to wait and see what happens."
