Chris Bosh to travel with the Miami Heat to Boston – NBA Update
Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra announced that star forward Chris Bosh will travel with the team to Boston, but will not play in game 3 and 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals. He said that Bosh will travel with the team so that he can continue working with
trainer Rey Jaffet and assistant Keith Askins.
Bosh had his 5th rehab workout at the American Airlines Arena but the team is yet to disclose any timetable for his return to the team.
"It's too early to tell right now. I think we're all encouraged that he's actually able to do some work” said Spoelstra.
Bosh is recovering from a strained abdominal muscle that he sustained in game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semi Finals against the Indiana Pacers. He had to leave the game due to the injury. Miami went on to win the game but lost the next two to the Pacers.
The back to back losses stirred questions about the lack of depth in the Heat roster and also highlighted the importance Bosh holds in the team after he had been criticized the whole season for not doing enough, as his numbers fell compared to the previous
seasons.
However, in his absence, Dwyane Wade has stepped up big time to become the very potent offensive weapon that he was when the Miami Heat won the NBA championship in 2006. Wade had a big game 4 and 5 against the Pacers and helped the Heat finish off the series
in 6 games with three back to back wins.
Spoelstra is not sure whether Bosh will be able to return for the series against Boston Celtics. However, after an initial glitch, the Heat seems to be doing quite well even without him. Mario Chalmers and Udonis Haslem have stepped up as good role players
in the Heat lineup and proven their abilities and importance in the team. If Miami defeats Boston in the Eastern Conference Finals and makes the trip to the NBA Finals, they would love to have Bosh back as their opponents would either be the San Antonio Spurs
or the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Both teams have been on a roll in the playoffs so far and are great offensive teams. Bosh’s presence in the center position would greatly help the Heat in containing the ability of the Spurs as well as the Thunder to drive into the paint and get easy shots.
