Brightwell Joins Sale
Sale are showing no signs that they will stop signing players soon as Chris Brightwell becomes the latest impressive addition to their playing staff.
Brightwell has represented England in international sevens rugby and started his rugby career in New Zealand on the back of some very big expectations. He says this is a move he has been waiting to make for a long time as he was playing in the Championship last season.
Sale have been working tirelessly during the close season to make drastic changes to their playing squad. They have brought in a number of players that have completely transformed the face of the playing team.
Brightwell has a number of key attributes that are going to make him important at Sale. The warning signs are out though as many are predicting that it will take a while before all of the new players can gel together and start playing well.
Player Attributes
Brightwell's biggest asset seems to be his pace. This is something that has made him successful for England in rugby sevens. He plays as a flanker, which means a lot of the wide play will go through him. Wide players need to have pace and skill that allows them to dodge and miss opposition tackles.
He arrives at the club with a great deal of experience. He played a lot of games for Birmingham last season and has learnt his trade in England, having moved to the country from New Zealand at an early age. This will make the transition in to his new club a little easier.
Sale coach Mike Brewer said: "Chris is a hard-working forward who also likes to attack. He scored several tries last season playing for Birmingham & Solihull, including five in a period of three games, and is also a useful goalkicker. I am sure Chris will become a very valuable member of our squad."
Do keep one eye on his kicking because many people have said that this is the best part of his game. He kicks for the England team in sevens rugby and scores a lot of points through this point of his game.
Competitive
The Sale squad is going to be very competitive at this moment in time and it could stop Brightwell from having an immediate impact. There are a lot of new faces at the club who are all trying to get in the team and this could create one or two problems.
For Sale to hit the ground running next season they need the team to gel together very quickly. This means that a team of players, who have not played together before, has to pull together if the club are not going to get off to a bad start in the Premiership.
Brewer added: "I spoke with Jamie Joseph the current Wellington and New Zealand Maori coach, about Chris as well as England Sevens coach Ben Ryan. Both have highly recommended Chris and see him having a big future if he can nail down a place in the starting XV with Sale Sharks."
Betting Advice
Brightwell will be a very good candidate to score tries and points for Sale during the Premiership season if he can get in the team and stay there. Don't be afraid to have a punt on him scoring the most points during the course of the season for the club.
Sale are a little more unpredictable and you should keep this in mind. They will do very well next season but only if they start the season well. Due to this you are advised to back off and see how they start before laying down bets on them to romp to glory.
