Chris Byrd reckons David Haye will have to be extraordinary to beat Wladimir Klitschko – Boxing news
The former WBO and IBF world heavyweight champion Chris Byrd reckons the current WBA world heavyweight champion David Haye will have to come up with something extraordinary to beat Wladimir Klitschko on Saturday, July 2, 2011.
The Hayemaker, Haye, will take on Dr. Steelhammer, Klitschko, Saturday in a highly-anticipated unification bout for the heavyweight titles at Hamburg’s Imtech Arena in Germany. Byrd believes it is going to be a very tough job for the brash Londoner.
It was very hard for the Rapid Fire, Byrd, to pick up a winner out of these two. He admitted Klitschko is the man to beat, as he is tall, powerful and skilled but on the same note he stated Haye has the speed along with the power. Therefore, Byrd thinks
if Haye makes a proper use of these two things, he can upset the 6 ft 6.5” Ukrainian giant, Klitschko.
He said, “It’s a difficult task to try to overcome, but with David Haye he’s a puncher. He has a great puncher’s chance. He has pretty fast hands and he has a chance in the fight, but it’s a good big man versus a good little man and David Haye’s got to be
a great little man to pull this off which is really an upset.”
However, in the end, the 40-year-old American Byrd declared Wladimir as a winner, provided Haye does not show up anything extraordinary. He remarked Haye will have to surprise Klitschko, as otherwise it is going to be Klitschko who will eventually win the
bout.
Byrd said Klitschko always beats his opponents in the last few rounds with his skills so Haye will have to finish the bout in the early rounds.
“He better have studied a lot of his tapes and better take chances in the fight to where he’ll surprise Wladimir. If not I think Wladimir will slowly break him down over the fight, because he’s been fighting like that lately. He’s just being patient, taking
his time, and not going for the knockout early,” said Byrd.
