Chris Capuano’s shut-out innings help New York Mets humiliate Atlanta Braves 6-0 – MLB Update
New York Mets’ starting pitcher, Chris Capuano had a remarkable day with the ball as he threw nine score-less innings and permitted just two hits with an ERA of 4.43 in the Mets’ 6-0 win against the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field, New York on August 26.
During first four innings, the batters struggled with their shots and did not play the tricky throws of the pitchers. At the bottom of first inning, David Wright walked and Ruben Tejada doubled to left-field but Lucas Duda fouled out to third base without
contributing any run for Mets. Similarly, the Braves’ batters also looked immobilised during second inning as Freddie Freeman and David Ross both struck-out on the curveball.
In the third inning, Tejada drove a single-run shot to left-field and Duda singled off right-field but Nick Evans grounded out to pitcher without taking any run. Michael Bourn and Chipper Jones both struck-out while Martin Prado grounded out at the top of
fourth inning.
Mets got off the mark and took a 2-0 lead at the bottom of fifth inning. Tejada scored the first run when Evans hit a single-run shot to left-field. The second run for Mets was taken by Duda when Josh Thole singled to shallow centre-field and Evans moved
towards second base to end the fifth inning.
The pitchers threw their respective pitches without giving any run during the sixth inning. Capuano struck-out 13 batters on his 122 pitches. Speaking to reporters, he said, “It was exhilarating to get that last out. I'm going to head inland a little bit
and head to higher ground.”
Uggla said, “He's battled and battled these last couple of years and worked his butt off to get back to this point. I heard that he had some rough outings the last four or five starts, but sometimes you've got to go through that to find it again.”
Justin Turner doubled to shallow left-field while Duda and Evans both added two collective runs at the bottom of seventh inning to give the Mets a 4-0 lead. During eighth inning, Mets advanced their lead to 6-0 when Duda drove a double-run shot towards deep
right-centre while Angel Pagan and Wright both contributed two consecutive runs.
However, Mets won the series with a credible victory. The second and third games of the series have been deferred due to hurricane Irene.
