Chris Carpenter admits he lost Game 6 for St. Louis Cardinals – NLCS Update
St. Louis Cardinals’ veteran starter Chris Carpenter has admitted that he certainly lost Game 6 of NLCS for his team.
"The bottom line is, I'm not giving my team a chance to win," Carpenter said after the game.
The Cardinals met San Francisco Giants on Sunday, October 21at AT&T Park in San Francisco, California in Game 6 of National League Championship Series.
Carpenter, despite knowing that this game could have proved decisive in seven-match encounter as his team was already leading 3-2 but the Giants had something else in mind when they approached their home field.
"The one thing I know is these guys take these ones hard, We've had a number of losses this season that felt like we've been kicked in the gut as we're walking off the field. And what I have admired about this club is they show up tomorrow the exact same guys that they showed up here today," Cardinals' manager Mike Matheny said as he explained about his team’s performance.
Matheny added, "We've had some games where we stack on runs and then we go absolutely hitless almost, for a while, or anything of impact.”
They started a great run and put up a great show. They certainly rattled the Cardinals' starter Carpenter and hammered him with great power. Carpenter received five runs and six hits on his four innings spell. He struck-out six while his ERA rose to 4.50 with enormous pace.
Later, Cardinals' relief pitchers came and calm down the situation as they held the Giants’ offensive hitters with great energy. However, it was too late as the Giants took total control of the game and in the end just held it tight.
Cardinals' Marc Rzepczynski also did not perform well and lost the game for his team. He allowed one run and one hit on his 6.75 ERA.
On the other hand, in Sunday’s game, none of the experienced players from the Cardinals’ roster performed and showed their valour. Only right fielder Carlos Beltran scored a single run on one hit while rest of the Cardinals could not get things going against the Giants' pitchers.
