Chris Carter shines as Oakland Athletics edge Los Angeles Angels 9-8 – MLB Recap
First baseman Chris Carter’s sixth inning homer landed the Oakland Athletics’ a narrow victory 9-8 over the Los Angeles Angels’ in the third game of their three-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, August 8 at O.co Coliseum in Oakland.
Carter played beautifully during the entire game and earned a decent victory for the Athletics. He scored total two runs and smashed two hits on his three at bats as his slugging percentage also remained consistent at .633.
"We have good at-bats late in the game and when we need the clutch hit, we get it, I feel like when the game is tied late, we're going to win every game. Someone's going to come through," said Carter with confidence and explained about his brilliant performance.
Later the A's manager Bob Melvin said, "The more we go along, the more we win and the more we compete with teams that are considered the best teams, the more confidence we're going to have, We have to try to instill more confidence in ourselves going forward that we can play with good teams, and to this point we've done pretty well."
Along with Carter, the A’s upfront entire batting line-up played wonderfully for their team and almost every major player contributed in his team’s victory.
With this win, the Athletics’ also won the series 2-1 and are now looking confident ahead of their next big three-match encounter with Chicago White Sox.
In Wednesday’s game, the Athletics looked confident from start of the game and never showed any sign of trouble during the whole match.
They started well and later finished the game with style. Their hitters and pitchers kept the Angels under pressure and never gave them any chance which could have damaged their winning momentum.
Instead, the Athletics played combined and supported each other’s play in all areas of the game which eventually proved fruitful for them as they powered past the Angels with a one run advantage.
Dan Straily despite allowing five runs and eight hits, he was still able to strike-out five Angels’ hitters on his consistent 5.06 ERA.
