Chris Christensen earns Men's 200m IM gold: Day two – 2011 Danish SC Nationals
Chris Christensen of West Swim Esbjerg earned gold medal of Men's 200m Individual Medley (IM) on opening day of the 2011 Danish Short Course Nationals on Friday, November 25 in Thisted, Denmark.
The session included playoffs of 200m IM, 800m freestyle, 400m freestyle and 50m butterfly in Men's and Women's category.
The 23-year-old Christensen dominated the final of Men's IM discipline by submitting a phenomenal effort of1 minute and 58.59 seconds. He remained 0.84 seconds ahead of Morten Klarskov of Elbertslund IF, who concluded his swim in a time of 1 minute and 59.43 seconds for silver medal.
Klarskov was trailed by Christensen's team-mate Nikolaj Kirketerp-Moller, who reached the finishing end with a third fastest timing of 1 minute and 59.56 seconds for bronze medal.
Next was the similar event in Women's category where Mie O. Nielsen claimed gold finish in a time of 2 minutes and 11.43 seconds. She was trailed by Swim Team Esbjerg's Katrine Holm Sorensen and Rikke Moller Pedersen of Frem Odense, who completed their swims in second and third fastest timing of 2:11.98 and 2:13.58 minutes, respectively.
Moments later, Anders Lie of Farum Svommeklub acquired title of Men's 800m freestyle by clocking a time of 8 minutes and 02.28 seconds. He was chased by Anton Orskov Ipsen of Birkerod Svommeklub, who finished second with an effort of 8 minutes and 07.51 seconds.
Thomas Olsen of Vest-Brondby emerged as third fastest finisher with a timing of 8 minutes and 18.07 seconds.
In the meantime, Lotte Friis of Herlev Svomning snatched gold medal of Women's 400m freestyle by posting a time of 4 minutes and 03.95 seconds. She was followed by Amalie Emma Thomsen and Mathilde Riis Sorensen, who surfaced as second and third position holders with timings of 4:12.93 and 4:16.94 minutes, respectively.
Subsequently, the crowd witnessed a laudable effort of Jakob Andkjer in Men's 50m butterfly, as he clinched gold medal of the event in a time of 23.74 seconds. He was traced by Daniel Steen Andersen, who remained 1.08 seconds slower and secured the podium for silver medal with a timing of 24.82 seconds while Jonas Sorensen stood third with 24.83 seconds effort.
In addition, the session came to an end after the conclusion of all scheduled events.
