Chris Clarkson wins five-year contract with the Leeds Rhinos
The Super League loose-forward Chris Clarkson has penned a five-year deal with Super League champions Leeds Rhinos.
Head coach Brian McDermott told BBC Radio Leeds, “I think Chris shows a huge amount of promise and I can see him being at this club for a long time. He has leadership qualities, though he's not ready for that, but I'm really excited that he's signed.”
Clarkson has been lauded abundantly for his whopping performance at the club, where he made his debut in March 2010. He was featured in a total of 18 games to his credit, where he also played the Challenge Cup final against Warrington.
While talking about the player’s commendable talent, McDermott further added, “I think his story has been well documented. He was plucked off a building site to come and play in a Challenge Cup final a couple of years ago. I think those years on the building
site put him in good stead. He's not over-confident, he's not cocky, but he's got a level of maturity about him that lumping some bags of cement and some bricks would have given him.”
The player is valued for his strong personality and maturity, which is one of the key ingredient sought after in a rugby league. These qualities make him the focus for others to follow the lead. While acknowledging the 21-year-old’s leadership qualities,
Rhinos coach branded the player a huge catch for his side.
McDermott also promised about honing the British talent until their inclusion is confirmed in the first grade club such as Rhinos. He said that this should be embraced by all the other clubs too because this is the only way about chiselling British talent
for their retention in the first grade clubs.
Clarkson also expressed his delight over the refreshed contract with Rhinos when he already had a few years remaining on his contract. He further added that he wanted to be a part of a big force that is all set to the reach out for newer untouched heights.
With Clarkson on board it is expected that Rhinos will perform even better in the world of rugby in times yet to come.
