Chris Coghlan’s RBI single helps Florida Marlins beat Philadelphia Phillies, 2-1- MLB News
Florida Marlins’ out-fielder, Chris Coghlan, had a notable day with the bat as he went 2-for-4 and hit a game-winning RBI in the Marlins’ 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies, on May 10, at the Sun Life Stadium, Florida.
Marlins won only the last match in the three-game series. Phillies have a decent Win-Loss record in the current season, as they lost only four out of last 22 games. Coghlan expressed his excitement and said, “When you have those two horses going, you know
it's a battle because you're going to have to scratch and claw for every run.”
The first inning passed away without any score for both teams. In the second inning, Phillies opened their scoring account and got a 1-0 lead, when Ryan Howard struck a one-run homer against Marlins’ starter, Josh Johnson. It was considered as the eighth
homer for Howard in the current season.
Marlins scored their first run in the third inning to tie the game, 1-all. Omar Infante singled on the grounder of Coghlan and reached at the third base in no time. No score was added from fourth to seventh inning for both sides. Phillies’ supporters were
silent after the second inning because their team was not able to score another run.
Coghlan hit a tie-breaking RBI in the eighth inning and Johnson completed his single to give the Marlins, a 2-1 lead. Marlins’ manager, Edwin Rodriguez, was pleased with his team performance. Speaking to reporters, he said, “This game came as advertised.
I think the fans had a lot of fun. A great at-bat -- one of the best at-bats in the game. JJ should be very proud of that.”
Phillies’ starter, Roy Halladay, pitched 8 innings and permitted just two runs on five hits including one earned run, with two walks only. He struck out nine batters. Halladay, while speaking on the game, said, “I'm kind of hoping he goes and plays somewhere
else. The walk definitely cost me. You can't afford to do that. I was definitely not thrilled about it.”
Johnson was outstanding throughout the game, as he gave away just one run on six hits in seven inning pitches. He walked three and had seven strike-outs.
