Chris Cole to send 30 kids to Woodward Action Sports Camp for a week of skating paradise
Chris Cole, the two-time Thrasher magazine Skater of the Year and two-time X Games gold medalist, has teamed up with DC Shoes and Camp Woodward to send 30 kids from the Philadelphia area to Woodward Action Sports Camp in Western Pennsylvania from a week
beginning Sunday, August 21.
These 30 inner city kids, enrolled in Philadelphia’s Police Athletic League, come from a background where the camp opportunity is a distant dream due to financial problems.
Cole, who grew up in a single-parent household in Levittown, Pennsylvania, said that he can relate to these kids as he himself had always wanted to attend Woodward Action Sports Camp as a kid, but was never able to do so due to financial limitations. However,
now that he has climbed the ladder of success and has enough resources, he wants to help the children in similar circumstances to live their dream.
“I believe that skateboarders and the community that we’ve created have the ability to do great things. This is one of them. Growing up skating in Philadelphia, having that be my home base, makes me want give back,” said Cole. “I used to dream about going
to Woodward Skate Camp, but I was unable to afford it. It wasn’t until I was a pro that I finally went. Giving kids with a similar situation the chance to go to my favourite skate spot in the world is just plain incredible. I am proud to be involved with this.”
The legendary skateboarder, along with Woodward, will be covering for the tuition fee, which is close to $1000 per camper, while DC Shoes will be supplying each kid with a brand new pair of Cole's signature Chris Cole S skate shoes.
DC’s vice-president of Marketing, Jeff Taylor said that the company is excited to support Cole in his generous effort to help the ill-fated kids and are glad to have an opportunity to give back to the community.
In the week-long trip to Camp Woodward, the kids will have the opportunity to work with 30 different professional skaters and trained instructors as they learn the art of skating at the varied terrain of Woodward. They will touch both indoor and outdoor
features and indulge in other various skating activities.
Cole plans on joining the kids at the Camp for majority of the week as well.
