Chris Davis helps Baltimore Orioles outlast Boston Red Sox 6-4 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles continued their excellent form as they beat Boston Red Sox 6-4 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Friday, May 4 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
The match was played on an extremely competitive note with both teams fighting hard to get the upper hand. Cody Ross helped the Red Sox take 1-0 lead in the second inning but the Orioles levelled the score in the third, thanks to Mark Reynolds who hit a
towering home-run to left.
Matt Wieters once again displayed some high quality hitting skills as he tripled to deep right to dent Boston’s confidence levels. The score was tied 4-4 when Chris Davis singled to right in the 13th inning and Wieters scored. Reynolds then hit a sacrifice
fly to centre to clinch a stunning victory for the Orioles.
"Everybody's contributing," said Reynolds after hitting his first home run of the season. "It's just fun to play behind these guys. They throw strikes and keep us in games. That's all you can ask for."
"As a defense that's all you ask for. It's a pitching staff that's going to go after the hitters and let us work," Orioles’ center fielder Adam Jones said. "The starting pitching has been outstanding. The bullpen, if there's a word better than outstanding,
that's what they've been."
Buck Showalter and company have looked in outstanding form over the last few weeks. Although they made a slow start to their 2012 season campaign, they have improved their game play with each passing game. With their win over the Red Sox on Friday evening,
the Orioles improved their win-loss record to 17-9, which also made them one of the most successful teams of this season so far.
If Baltimore can put up similar numbers throughout the season, surely they will have an excellent chance to make it to the World Series. However, taking into account the quality and depth in Baltimore’s offence and defence, it will not be surprise to anyone
if they go on to win their first World Series title since 1983.
