Chris Davis helps Baltimore Orioles overpower Toronto Blue Jays 6-4 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles crushed the Toronto Blue Jays 6-4 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Friday, August 24 in the opening game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Starting pitcher Zach Britton displayed some top quality throwing skills as he gave up just four hits and two runs in six plus innings for his third win of the season. Britton is one of the finest throwing talents in the Orioles’ pitching line-up and he
will be definitely looking to continue his good work in the upcoming games.
Chris Davis had an excellent night with the bat as he hit back-to-back home-runs to help the Orioles comeback from behind to claim a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning. Davis hit his third home-run in the sixth inning to stretch the lead to 5-1. Matt Wieters
and Nick Markakis also made useful contributions to lift Baltimore to a much needed victory.
"I was definitely thinking about the home run," Davis said. "He gave me a good pitch to hit on the first pitch and I fouled it off. He was tough after that, but the biggest thing is we get the win and I enjoyed a pretty good night."
"It was awesome," said Davis who got standing ovation from the crowd. "I mean, these fans have been awesome all year."
"I was thinking about trying to work a walk," Davis said with a wry grin in a post game interview.
It was a great game of baseball as both teams battled hard for supremacy but it was the Orioles who eventually came out on top to register an emphatic victory. Orioles’ defence and pitching rotation, in particular, should be given credit for the way they
handled some difficult situations during the contest.
Right now, Buck Showalter and company are placed third on the American League East Division standings table, just five games behind the leaders New York Yankees. It will be interesting to see if they can extend their winning streak over the next couple of
weeks to have any chance of making it to the playoffs.
