Chris Davis’ tie-breaking single helps Texas Rangers beat Los Angeles Angels 5-4 – MLB Update
Chris Davis hit a tie-breaking single to give the Texas Rangers an incredible 5-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington on Sunday, May 15.
Importantly, Davis’ eight-inning single gave only the second win to Rangers in the past month. The fantastically impressive performance not only cheered the team, which had struggled on Saturday, but also delighted the team manager.
Before one forgets, it is worth remembering that Davis’ foul pop-out on Saturday resulted in the Rangers’ defeat. "I thought about it when I was walking up to the plate," Davis said. "You can't change what happened yesterday. You can only control what you
can control today...When you're not playing every day, you have to capitalize on every opportunity you're given."
Sunday’s game began with Los Angeles charging right from the beginning. Torii Hunter brought home the first crucial run for the Angels, grounding out to short-stop in the punishable ball pitched by C.J. Wilson. Ervin Santana then pitched a shut-out inning
for the Angels, maintaining a critical 1-0 lead for his team.
Texas stormed into the game in the third inning with a three-run homer of Adrian Beltre. Santana who had pitched two shut-out innings was taken to task by Adrian, as his homer not only reversed the lead of the Angels but also gave a 3-1 lead to the Rangers.
Santana gave up another run in the fourth inning when Chris Davis homered to left centre to take up the Rangers’ lead to 4-1. However, the Angels had their strategy to make a come-back in the game. Erick Aybar scored the second run for Los Angeles in the
fifth inning which brought Texas’ lead down to 4-2.
Aybar showed his feat in the sixth inning to score a two-run homer. Wilson’s pitch had perhaps had its own weakness that Erick capitalised upon. This was also a tie-breaking score. Texas could not possibly afford it at a time when they had lost their previous
game.
Davis played his role here. In the eighth inning, when the game was tied, Davis singled to right to bring the score to 5-4, a lead that was successfully defended by Neftali Feliz in the ninth inning giving Texas an important win against Los Angeles.
