Chris Dyer’s new role at the "production side" in Ferrari
Ferrari employee, Chris Dyer has been shifted to the factory, with his new role in the “production side.” Sources close to Dyer revealed the news this morning conforming that after waiting for more than a month, he has finally gotten to
know his role for the upcoming season.
The Australian native has got the worse of the heat, after the Italian team lost the 2010 Drivers’ Championship. As the Formula 1 caravan entered the last round of the season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso held the apex of
the points’ tally and victory seemed only at an arm’s length. However, as the race began, a poor strategy of the team cost Alonso the third championship of his career.
Following an early pit stop of the Red Bull driver Mark Webber, who held third place in the charts, Ferrari also called Alonso to take early pit stop. Just like Webber, when the Spaniard came out of pit, he got stuck behind heavy traffic. The driver chased
last season’s rookie, Vitaly Petrov of Renault for the remaining 40 laps of the day. As the round ended, the driver settled at 7th place, losing the championship only by 4 points.
The round went worse than expected by the team. Although no one was blamed immediately after the race for suggesting the poor strategy then, yet nearly a month back, Dyer was held responsible for tailoring the terrible plan. The team announced that since
it wanted to ensure that such a mistake was not repeated again, Dyer was being replaced by Pat Fry of Red Bull. Moreover, it was proclaimed that his new role was not decided, and that it would be declared later.
Today, some sources revealed that Dyer has been shifted to the production side. The news has been taken as a surprise by many in the auto race world, believing it to be an odd place for the man who had been behind the success of great racers. Dyer has been
a Race Engineer for several years, bringing success to drivers like Michael Schumacher and Kimi Räikkönen, the winner of the World Championship in 2007.
However, the official announcement from Ferrari is yet to come, while many in Formula 1 who know Dyer, believe to see him doing well, regardless of the role that he gets.
