Chris Englehart makes it for the 3000th winning trainee
Not only are horses and their jockeys making news about breaking previous and setting new records, the trainers are head on too in the same affair. Thus the name that cannot be missed is Chris Englehart who made his 3,000th win just recently on
19th August, 2011.
This was possible when his trainee, Twinkle In His Eye, scored a one length victory at Finger Lakes Casino and Racetrack.
He is a 56-year old from Canandaigua, New York, and has had a training license since 1973 and he has been constantly training since then.
In 2010, he won his eighth consecutive leading trainer title at Finger Lakes which totaled up the overall titles to 10. His 69 triumphs this season have put him in the lead.
Winning titles is not the only reason for his fame rather he is more popular as the trainer of the super sprinter, Frattare, who in 1989 became the first local horse to take home the Grade 3 Finger Lakes Breeders’ Cup Sprint.
Training horses is more of a family trait for Chris as his brother and his son too train horses in the region.
In 2009, Englehart saddled 158 horses that won which led him to breaking his own single season record of 141 that he set three years back in 2006. The same night he went on claiming 3,001 and 3,002 with Brock N Roll in the seventh race and Winged Warrior
in the ninth to complete the threesome.
The only thing which got him down during his winning streak was the death of his 4-year old filly, She’s Smokin Hot who was euthanized after being diagnosed a contagious viral disease that leads to respiratory disease and sometimes neurological disease.
Moreover, in order to prevent the spreading of the disease in New York, he even had to abstain from running his horses for a three-week quarantine at his barns. Thus now when he got back it was to get his own show back for himself.
Englehart is for sure a competitive one but then again other trainers are also bucking up for getting various titles and records against their names which of course is not impossibility. Winning 3000th has for sure put more responsibility on his
shoulders.
